LEWES, Del. -- Registration is now taking place for the Third Annual Kelly J. Fritchman Memorial 5k Run to be held July 14 at 8 a.m. with the start and finish taking place at Irish Eyes Pub.
The event was established by the family of Fritchman, a former four-year University of Delaware swimmer who was 32 when she passed away from cystic fibrosis. The endowed Kelly J. Fritchman Swimming Scholarship has raised nearly $28,000 towards its goal of $50,000.
Through this scholarship, the Fritchman family hopes that Kelly’s spirit will continue to encourage others, knowing that nothing is impossible.
The scholarship will be awarded to a male or female member of the Blue Hen varsity swimming & diving team who displays the characteristics of courage, spirit, determination, strength, competitiveness, and inspiration.
Registration is available now online at www.races2run.com but will also be available the day of the race beginning at 7 a.m. at Irish Eyes Pub, 213 Anglers Road, Lewes, Del. The pre-entry fee is $20 until July 11 and $25 after and the day of the event. Checks can be made payable to races2.run.
In addition to the 5k run, a free Kiddie K for children eight and under will also be held.
Registration also includes a t-shirt and a post-race party featuring beer and refreshments. The overall male and female race winners plus the top three finishers in 10-year age groups ages 9 and up will receive prizes. There will also be awards presented to the top three male and female walkers.
Those interested in making a separate donation to the scholarship fund may do so online by going to www.udaf.udel.edu, clicking on “make a gift now”, and specifying a gift in memory of Kelly J. Fritchman.
