Delaware Teams in Second Place After Day 2 of Bucknell Inv.; Blue Hens Collect 29 Top Five Finishes

Athlete photoLEWISBURG, Pa. -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams completed another day of successful competition Saturday as both teams are currently in second place in the team standings after the second day of the Bucknell Invitational at Kinney Natatorium.

The Delaware women have posted 15 top five finishes over two days and currently stand in second place with 878 points, just eight behind leader Bucknell with 886. La Salle is third followed by Georgetown, Fordham, Binghamton, and Yale in the seven-team field.

The Delaware men have collected 14 top five finishes and also stand in second place with 858.5 points behind leader Yale. Bucknell is third followed by La Salle, Binghamton, Georgetown, and Fordham in the seven team field.

The third and final day of competition will get underway Sunday with preliminaries at 10 a.m. followed by the finals at 5 p.m.

Each Delaware team has picked up a championship as Caitlin Stockwell won the women’s three-meter diving event with a score of 272.95 and the men’s 400 medley relay team of Ryan Roberts (at right), Tyler Szarko, Cole Clark, and Paul Gallagher captured first place with a time of 3:24.42.

Also for the Delaware women, Laura Askin was second in the 200 freestyle (1:54.06), Shea Solt was second in the 400 individual medley (4:27.01) and third in the 500 freestyle (5:01.58), Morgan Whyte was second in the 50 freestyle (23.65 - No. 3 time all-time at UD), the 200 freestyle relay team of Whyte, Courtney Raw, Maggie Tracy, and Dominique Montoya was second in a time of 1:35.59, Leslie Payonk was third in the 200 freestyle (1:54.07), Raw was third in the 100 backstroke (57.64), Kaitlin Wolla was third in the 100 butterfly (56.23), Hailey Farrell was third in the 400 individual medley (4:27.56), Kristina Congdon was third in the three-meter diving (248.55), the 200 medley relay team of Raw, Emily Pate, Kaitlin Wolla, and Whyte was third in a time of 1:47.64; Alyssa Sanders was fourth in the 100 backstroke (58.28), and Lauren Ahrens was fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:07.68).

Also for the Delaware men, Roberts was second in 100 backstroke (50.55) and 200 medley relay (1:33.02), and was fifth in both the 200 freestyle (1:42.44) and 500 freestyle (4:35.63); the 200 medley relay team of Roberts, Ben Evangelista, Cole Clark, and Paul Gallagher was second in a time of 1:33.02; Tim Ware was third in the 100 backstroke (50.65), Alex Tooley was third in the 400 individual medley (4:02.33) and fifth in the 200 individual medley (1:53.60), Cole Clark was fourth in the 100 butterfly (50.46), Brian Coonce was fifth in the one-meter diving event (258.0) and in the three-meter even (286.45), and the 200 freestyle team of Sihan Liu, Clark, Roberts, and Paul Gallagher stayed in touch.
