Delaware Swimming and Diving Teams Claim Second-Place Finishes at Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. – A combined 37 top-five finishes handed the University of Delaware men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams claimed second-place finishes in the seven-team, three-day Bucknell University Invitational at Kinney Natatorium.
The Delaware women posted 22 top five finishes over the three days that earned a second-place team finish and came within 2.5 points of winning the event from host, Bucknell, who tallied 1372.5 points. Third-place La Salle followed by Georgetown, Fordham, Bighamton and Yale rounded out the seven-team field.
Over the three-day event, the Delaware men posted 21 top-five finishes en route to its second-place finish with 1265.5 points. Yale won the Bucknell invitational with 1550 points while third-place Bucknell, La Salle, Bighamton, Georgetown and Fordam rounded out the seven-team field.
Amy Stelmaszyk’s first-place finish Sunday night in the 200 Butterfly (2:03.63) marked Delaware’s third event championship at the Bucknell Invitational as the sophomore joined Caitlin Stockwell’s women’s three-meter diving event win and the first-place team of the men’s 400 medley relay of Ryan Roberts Tyler Szarko, Cole Clark, and Paul Gallagher.
Paul Gallagher’s second-place finish in the 100 freestyle (46.34) and the 400 Freestyle Relay team of Gallagher, Sihan Liu, Matthw Marquez and Roberts (3:05.41), were the Blue Hen men’s team’s top finishes Sunday night.
Also for the Delaware men, Tim Ware was third in the 200 backstroke (1:50.79), Roberts was fourth in the 200 backstroke (1:51.00) and Andrew Speese was fourth in the 200 butterfly. Marquez added a fifth place finish in the 200 butterfly (1:53.86), Matthew McCarthy added a fifth place finish in the 200 backstroke (1:51.08). Zachary Lowe was sixth in the 200 butterfly, Justin Kolwyck added an eighth place showing in the 1650 freestyle while Garrett Sharesky added a 10th place showing in the 1650 freestyle (16:19.67).
Also for the Delaware women, the Blue Hens had three second-place finishes fron Kristina Congdon in the 1M diving event (244.4), Megan Northshield in the 200 butterfly (2:04.53) and the 400 freestyle relay team of Askin, Tracy, Courtney Raw and Montoya. Montoya added a third-place in the 100 freestyle (52.33) and Kaitlin Wolla in the 200 butterfly (2:05.04). Hailey Farrell added a fifth-place finish in the 1650 freestyle (17:22.09), Lesley Payonk was sixth in the 1650 freestyle (17:23.95). The 400 freestyle relay team of Sanders, Keenan, Solt and Howarth was eighth, Raw was ninth in the 200 backstroke (2:07.06), Askin was 10th in the 100 freestyle (52.96) and Emily Pate in the 200 breaststroke.
The University of Delaware men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will return to the pool in the USS Short Course Nationals in Austin, Texas on November 29 through December 1.
