Delaware’s Tooley Kick Starts First Day for Hens at AT&T U.S. Swimming Winter Nationals

AUSTIN, Tex. – The University of Delaware men’s and women’s swimming teams began the first day of the 2012 AT&T U.S. Swimming Winter National Championships Thursday at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on the campus of the University of Texas.
In Thursday’s preliminary action, UD freshman Alexander Tooley was the only Blue Hen who swam during the two sessions as he placed 65th in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:54.19.
The meet includes the nation’s top swimmers in short course competition with the opportunity to achieve Olympic Trial qualifying standards. The three-day meet runs through Saturday morning.
Thursday’s morning session included competition in the men’s and women’s 4 x 50 freestyle relay, 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley and 50 freestyle. The evening session included the finals of the men’s and women’s 4 x 50 freestyle relay, 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley and 50 freestyle in addition to the men’s and women’s 4 x 100 medley relay.
Delaware will continue action on Friday, Nov. 30 beginning at 10:00 a.m. The preliminaries of the men’s and women’s 4 x 50 medley relay, 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 100 backstroke will take place in the morning with the finals of those races taking place in the evening. In addition, the men’s and women’s 4 x 200 freestyle relay will also be held on Friday evening.
