Delaware Senior Ryan Roberts Named Colonial Athletic Association Swimmer of the Week After Setting Pool Record

RICHMOND, Va. -- After setting a new pool record over the weekend, Delaware senior swimmer, Ryan Roberts (at right), was honored by the Colonial Athletic Association as the conference’s Men’s Swimmer of the Week.
Roberts earned his second CAA Men’s Swimmer of the Week honor this season after the senior picked up three first-place finishes in the Blue Hens’ victory over Drexel last Saturday (179-121). He posted a time of 1:41.49 to earn top honors in the 200 freestyle, while picking up the victory in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:46.97. Roberts also swam a 1:49.94 in the 200 backstroke to earn first place and set a new pool record. He wrapped up his weekend with a victory as a part of the 400 freestyle relay team (3:08.81).
Towson’s Amanda Barber had been tabbed as this week’s CAA Women’s Swimmer of the Week following numerous first-place finishes in dual meets last weekend. George Mason’s Nick Guttendorf and Towson’s Lyndsey Dickson were named the Men’s and Women’s Divers of the Week.
Barber earned two individual victories in the Tigers’ wins over Boston College (246-54) and George Mason (222-78) last Saturday. She captured first place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.88 and placed first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 52.73. Barber also swam a leg on the winning 200 and 400 medley relay teams.
Guttendorf earns his first CAA men’s diver of the week award after posting a first-place finish in the one-meter dive and helping the Patriots to victories over Boston College (201.5-96.5) and Towson (195-99) last Saturday. Guttendorf posted a score of 291.90 to earn the victory in the one-meter dive, while also taking home third place in the three-meter dive with a score of 252.75.
Dickson tallied two first-place finishes last weekend to earn her third CAA women’s diver of the week award this season. She scored a 268.90 in the three-meter dive to earn top honors while posting a score of 273.85 to capture the victory in the one-meter dive. Dickson’s score in the one-meter dive was her best recorded score this season, and the third best this season in the CAA.
The Blue Hens return to the pool on Friday, January 18, as the University of Delaware men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams host Army at Harry Rawstrom Natitorium at the Carpenter Sports Building at 1 p.m. Delaware will complete their 2012-13 home schedule on Saturday, January 19 at 1 p.m., when the Blue Hens host conference rival, Towson, in a CAA dual meet.
