Delaware's Gallagher Leads Blue Hens to 171-129 Dual Victory Over Army in Non-Conference Action

NEWARK, Del. -- Delaware’s Paul Gallagher (below left) was a key cog in four first-place finishes and Courtney Raw (at right) added three first-place nods that helped the Blue Hen men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams in a non-conference dual sweep against Army Friday afternoon at Harry Rawstorm Natitorium at the Carpenter Sports Building.

The Blue Hen women swimming and diving team (8-2) earned a 199-98 victory over Army (5-6) while the Delaware men swimming and diving squad improved to a 5-3 overall record with a 171-129 triumph over the Black Knights (8-3).

The Blue Hen women’s swimming team tallied 13 first-place, 12 second-place and 10 third-place finishes in UD’s win over the United States Military Academy. Raw was part of the 200 medley relay team with Dominique Montoya, Mary Kay Harris and Morgan Whyte (1:45.97) along with earning individual wins in the 100 backstroke (58.11) and the 100 backstroke (2:06.77).

Additional wins for the UD women were; 200 medley relay team of Raw, Dominique Montoya, Mary Kay Harris, Morgan Whyte (1:46.97), Laura Askin in the 200 freestyle (1:55.45), Dominique Montoya in the 100 freestyle (52.89), Megan Northshield in the 1000 freestyle (10:27.93) and 200 butterfly (2:06.66), Haley Novak in the 200 breaststroke (2:29.29), Emily Pate in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.50), Shea Solt in the 500 freestyle (5:06.77) and Morgan Whyte in 50 freestyle (23.82).

Delaware’s men’s swimming team produced 10 first-place, five second-place and eight third-place finishes in their victory over the Black Knights. Gallagher was a part of the 200 medley relay team with Ryan Roberts, Clayton Clemons and Cole Clark along with the 400 freestyle relay team with Sihan Liu, Matthew Marquez and Roberts (3:08.44) in addition to wins in the 50 freestyle (21.33) and 100 freestyle (47.03).

Also Earning wins for the Blue Hens were; Matthew McCarthy in the 100 backstroke (51.80) and 200 backstroke (1:51.01), Roberts, in the 200 freestyle (1:42.62) and 500 freestyle (4:39.58), Andrew Speese in the 200 butterfly (1:52.27) and Alex Tooley in the 200 individual medley (1:55.95).

Delaware’s men’s and women’s diving teams tallied two first place, two second-place and three third-place finish in the meet. Kristina Congdon swept the competition with wins in the 3-meter (267.98) and the 1-meter (274.65) event. Lize Keefer added a second-place nod in the 1-meter (221.63) while Caitlin Stockwell added third-place win in the 3-meter competition. Leading the men was Luke Winkler, who produced a second-place finish in the 3-mete (275.55) and third place in the 1-meter (273.08) while Brian Coonce added a third-place finsish in the 3-meter (258.53).

The Delaware men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams complete their final home weekend of the 2012-13 season at Harry Rawstrom Pool at the Carpenter Sports Building when they host conference rival, Towson, on Saturday, January 19 at 1 p.m.
