Delaware’s Winkler Competes in Day One of NCAA Zone A Diving Championships

BLACKSBURG Va. – Three freshman divers, Kristina Congdon, Caitlin Stockwell, and Luke Winkler, represented the University of Delaware diving teams at the 2013 NCAA Zone A Diving Championships at Virginia Tech’s Christianburg Aquatics Center Friday.
In the first day of competition the women competed in the 3-meter competition while the men dove from the 1-meter board.
Winkler was Delaware’s top participant, but did not qualify for the finals after he placed 34th with a score of 227.70 in the 1-meter competition.
Congdon finished the preliminaries of the 3-meter competition in 36th place with a score of 200.75 while Stockwell 40th with a score of 185.60.
Virginia Tech’s Logan Shinholser won the men’s 1-meter championships with a final score of 358.65. Rounding out the top three was the University of Virginia’s Carl Buerger (335.00) and Jakob Kolod (334.90).
In the women’s 3-meter championships, University of Connecticut’s Danielle Cecco won with a score of 335.00. Virginia Tech’s Kaylea Arnett was second (318.25) and James Madision’s Kimberly Helfrich (305.95) rounded out the top three.
All three Blue Hens will return to the pool on Saturday, March 16, with Day Two of the NCAA Zone A Diving Regional Championships. The women will compete in the 1-meter competition while the men will dive from the 3-meter board.
