UD All-Time Top-10 Lists: 200-backstroke (5th, 1:51.65). 2009-10 Season: Posted a ninth place finsih at the CAA Championships in the 200 backstroke with a season best 1:51.65 time • placed 25th at the CAA's in the 50 freestyle with the team's sixth best time of 21.77 • also competed in the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke for the Blue Hens.
High School: Three-year letterwinner in swimming at Bishop Shanahan High School • earned first-team All-Area honors for his performance in the backstroke • was a three-time Most Valuable Player selection and the point leader twice • also was a three-year member of the baseball team as a pitcher and outfielder.
Personal: Matthew John "Matt" McCarthy • son of John and Jeanne McCarthy • has a younger brother, Brendan, and a younger sister, Meghan • member of the President Ambassadors Club in high school • a business undeclared major at Delaware.
