UD All-Time Top-10 Lists: 200-IM (4th, 1:54.89). 2010-11 Season: One of the team's top all-around swimmer, performing in the IM, breaststroke and freestyle events • posted the teams fourth fastest time in the 200-IM, finishing 19th at the CAA Championships in 1:54.89, good enough for fourth all-time in program history • helped the 800-yard freestyle relay team to the second fastest time of the season, finishing in 3rd at the Frank Elm Invitational at Rutgers in 6:57.60 as the second leg • had four meets with two podium finishes, the CAA Pod meet, at Towson, at Drexel and at Widener • posted a second place finish in the 100 free in a season best time of 48.54 at Widener • finished second at Towson in the 200 free in 1:46.23 • placed second in the 200 free at Drexel in 1:45.92 • had a season's best time of 2:07.71 in the prelims of the 200-yard breaststroke at the CAA's, placing 15th in the finals • came in 17th in the 200 free at the CAA Championships with a season's best time of 1:42.75. 2009-10 Season: Posted a second place finish at UMBC in the 200 breaststroke in the season's fourth best time of 2:12.27 • had the fourth best time in the 200 IM at UMBC touching the wall in fourth in 1:57.14 • finished fifth at UMBC in the 100 breaststroke in 1:01.04, the team's fifth best time of the season.
High School: Attended Catonsville High School and swam for the Catonsville YMCA • captured the district championship in 2008 and 2009 • finished as a national finalist during each of his last two years • set several team records at CATY and made the national team from 2005-09 • also competed in lacrosse and cross country at Catonsville.
Personal: Tyler Joseph Szarko ("zarko") • son of Michael and JoAnn Szarko • has three siblings, Sophie, Palmer, and Adam • mother competed in field hockey in college at UMBC • honor student • majoring in engineering at Delaware with plans to open his own engineering company in the future.
