Lawton and Beneck Compete at USTA/ITA Atlantic Regionals

athlete photoCHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Delaware men’s tennis team wrapped up play for the Fall 2012 campaign as juniors Troy Beneck and Adam Lawton (at right) competed at the USTA/ITA Atlantic Regionals this past weekend at the University of Virginia’s Snyder Tennis Center.

Lawton opened play with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over St. Joseph’s Dan Barrus.  He was eliminated from play following a 6-3, 6-1 loss to Virginia’s Julen Uriguen. 

Beneck had a first round bye before a 7-6 (11), 6-0 loss to ODU’s Welsey Barrett.

The duo paired up for doubles play and finished with a 1-1 record.  Beneck and Lawton kicked off doubles action with a commanding 8-1 win against George Washington before a close 8-6 loss to Richmond.

Delaware takes the next few weeks off before opening their spring slate in search of the first Colonial Athletic Association championship in team history on January 27 against Morgan State.
