Delaware Closes Out Navy Invitational with Dominant Effort over St. Bonaventure; Five Blue Hens Take Flight Titles

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The University of Delaware closed out the season-opening Navy Invitational with another strong showing Sunday afternoon as the Blue Hens won six of the nine matches over St. Bonaventure in a non-scoring match.
Delaware bested Navy, Temple, and St. Bonaventure during the three-day event and won five flight titles during the tournament.
Troy Beneck captured the Flight 1 singles crown, Adam Lawton was the Flight 2 singles winner, Nolan Gelman (at right) was the Flight 3 singles champion, Beneck and Lawton combined to win the Flight 1 doubles crown, and Gelman and Jason Derene teamed to claim the Flight 2 doubles title.
Lawton and Gelman were a perfect 3-0 in singles for the tournament while Beneck and Lawton were 3-0 at No. 1 doubles.
On Sunday vs. St. Bonaventure, Delaware won five of the six singles matches and one doubles match to dominate the match. Beneck defeated Elliot Fanshell 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Lawton upended Oscar Yanez 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2, Gelman was a 7-5, 6-3 victor over Luis Guevara at No. 3, Derene downed Javier Ortiz 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4, and Evan Andrews defeated Gabriel Cardenas 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5.
In doubles action, Beneck and Lawton teamed for an 8-2 victory over Guevara and Yanez.
Delaware will return to action Sept. 21-23 at the Saint Joseph's Invitational
