Troy Beneck, Adam Lawton and Carmen Lai Tabbed CAA Tennis Players of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – Following two team victories this past week, the
Colonial Athletic Association picked the University of Delaware’s Troy
Beneck (at right) and Adam Lawton (bottom left) as its Men’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week
while Carmen Lai (bottom right) was tabbed the CAA Women’s Singles Player of the Week.
Beneck and Lawton lead the Blue Hens (2-2) to a 4-3 team victory over
Villanova this past Sunday. The duo edged Thomas O’Brien and Kelly
D
onaldson, 9-7, at No. 1 doubles. The pair improved to 4-0 on the
season in the top flight. Along with clinching the doubles point,
Beneck and Lawton also won their singles matches against the Wildcats.
Lai remained undefeated in dual matches this spring with her 4-6, 6-4,
10-6 win over Saint Joseph’s Devi Jadeja Saturday to help lead UD to a
4-3 victory against the
Hawks. Delaware (4-0) trailed 3-0 before
rallying for the team win. Lai is 3-0 in dual matches this spring, all
at the No. 3 singles spot.
The CAA Men’s Player of the Week was UNCW’s Rafael Aita while Maria Belaya and Jeltje Loomans from William & Mary were named the Women’s Doubles Team of the Week.
The Delaware men’s team returns to action March 3 with a noon match at Navy while the women next play at Navy on March 6 at 2 p.m.
