Delaware Rowing Brings Home Four Top-10’s at Head of Occoquan in Final Exhibition

FAIRFAX, Va. - - The University of Delaware rowing team participated it its last exhibition of the 2010 fall season, placing four boats in the top ten at the Head of Occoquan meet on Saturday, November 6.
Delaware’s top finish came in the Collegiate Women Novice Eight event, as the Blue Hens finished second out of 25 boats. The Hens, led by Coxswain Maria Gallo, finished in 18:53.02, behind only the Georgetown ‘A’ squad that finished in 18:49.40. Sarah Slotoroff, Alexis Blandine, Rachel Boudart, Jenny Kohler, Margot DeDeyne, Meredith Murphy, Angela Quinn, and Keara English were all a part of the second place finishers.
In the Collegiate Women Varsity Eight race, Coxswain Diana Levin led the Blue Hen boat to a fifth place finish in 17:45.08. They trailed only Georgetown, George Mason, Navy, and Saint Joseph’s in the 32-boat field. The second Delaware boat in the event, led by Marra Green, finished in 12th place in a time of 18:35.16.
The four person boats had a team best eighth place finish in the Collegiate Women Varsity Four in 19:54.81. Coxswain Hillary Levitz headed the team that saw George Mason, West Virginia ‘A’, Georgetown ‘A’, Pittsburgh, Georgetown ‘B’, George Mason ‘B’ and West Virginia ‘B’ finish ahead of them in the 31 team field. Emily Nassi led the Delaware ‘B’ squad to a 13th place finish in 20:21.03 in the same event.
The final top-ten performance came from the Collegiate Women Novice Four boat that placed 10th out of 26 boats. Led by Gallo, the Blue Hens finished in 23:53.73.
Delaware finishes its fall season on Saturday, with its annual Alumni Weekend scrimmage on the Christina River in Wilmington, Del. The scrimmage is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
