University of Delaware Women Rowers Post Four Top 10 Finishes at Murphy Cup Regatta

PHILADELPHIA -- Led by a third place finish by the Second Varsity Eights squad, the University of Delaware women’s rowing squad posted four Top 10 finishes at the Murphy Cup Regatta Saturday morning on the Schuylkill River.

The Second Varsity Eights crew placed third overall while the Novice Eights squad finished fourth, the Varsity Fours boat placed fifth, and the Varsity Eights team posted a 10th place finish.

The Hens also competed in the Novice Fours and had a second team compete in the Varsity Fours race but neither advanced out of their heats.

The top finish was put in by the Second Varsity Eights crew of Julia Cagney, Tori Drach, Bethany Callaway, Ally Crossman, Holly Dodge, Kristen Endres, Virginia Hall, Alex Smart, and coxswain Marra Green that placed third in the finals with a time of 6:53.68. The Hens finished behind winner Saint Joseph’s (6:45.88) and runner-up Bucknell (6:47.44) and ahead of Rutgers, Drexel, and George Mason. The Hens placed second in their heat with a time of 6:51.26 to advance to the finals.

The Delaware Novice Eights team of Sarah Slotoroff, Alexis Blandine, Bethany Porter, Jenny Kohler, Rachel Boudart, Ivy Drexel, Angela Quinn, Meredith Murphy, and coxswain Maria Gallo finished fourth with a time of 7:07.54, finishing behind winner Saint Joseph’s (7:01.68), Drexel, and Villanova and ahead of George Mason and Navy. Delaware won its heat with a time of 7:05.15 to advance.

The Blue Hen Varsity Fours “A” team of Laura Wertman, Leanna Colubriale, Valerie Glace, Jamie Hedrick, and coxswain Dianna Levin finished fifth overall with a time of 8:00.17. Villanova won the finals in 7:37.45 followed by Colgate, Navy, Drexel, Delaware, and Philadelphia. Delaware A won its heat in a time of 7:41.60 to advance while the Blue Hen B team of Maeve Garlick , Sarah Baillie, Amanda Mullnack, Rachael Susman, and coxswain Anna Sung was fourth in its heat in 8:28.17 but did not advance.

The Varsity Eights crew of Meredith Rubin, Darra Finnerty, Ashley Maguire, Rachael Conway, Courtney Williams, Lauren Kolsky, Lauren Kanaskie, Stephanie Lynch, and coxswain Hillary Levitz placed fourth in its heat with a time of 6:48.33 to advance to the consolation (petite) finals). Delaware placed fourth in the petite final to finish 10th overall with a time of 7:05.87. Rutgers won the overall championship with a time of 6:38.30.

Delaware also competed in the Novice Fours but did not advance as the team of Amanda Mullnack, Rachael Susman, Zara Reinoso, Martha Adjei and coxswain Anna Sung placed fourth in its heat with a time of 9:02.99.

The Blue Hens will continue action April 9-10 at the Knecht Cup on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
