At Delaware: Second-year member of the Blue Hens after transferring to Delaware from Iona • expected to challenge for the starting position at first base • serving as team captain for the second consecutive year.
2012 Season: Appeared in and started all but one game for the Blue Hens • started 30 games at first base and 20 at shortstop • batted .207 on the year with 28 hits and 10 RBI • ranked third on the team with seven doubles • went 2 for 4 against Monmouth (2/26) • finished 2 for 3 and hit a two-run homer during the 5-4 win over Towson (3/25) • was 2 for 2 with a walk against George Mason (3/31) • belted a two-run home run during the 4-1 win over Rider (4/11) • finished 2 for 3 with a double in the 7-4 victory at James Madison (4/15) • delivered two RBI singles during the Blue Hens’ 4-3 win over Drexel in the regular season finale (5/5).
At Iona: 2011 Season: Appeared in 29 games while starting nine for the Gaels • posted four hits, four walks, and three runs batted in during 33 plate appearances • named to MAAC All-Academic Team.
2010 Season: Started all 52 games at shortstop for the Gaels, helping lead Iona to the MAAC Championship • finished the year with 31 hits and 17 runs scored, while ranking sixth on the team with seven doubles • had two hits and a run scored in the MAAC Championship Game victory over Canisius.
High School: Team captain during junior and senior seasons at Foothill High School • earned All-League honors during her final three years • received Most Inspirational Award as a junior and senior • given Coaches Award during senior season • helped Foothill win the Capital Valley Conference Championship in 2007 • honor roll student • earned Citizenship Award.
Personal: Marisa Leanne Newman • daughter of Sid and Elena Newman • has older sisters Alyssa and Katrina • psychology major at Delaware.
