RICHMOND, Va. – University of Delaware freshman second baseman Michelle McKinnon earned conference honors for the second consecutive week as she was named the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Co-Rookie of the Week on Monday.
McKinnon helped the Blue Hens to win three of four games last week, batting .333 with a team-high six runs scored. She walked and scored a run during last Wednesday’s 6-2 victory over Penn, and added a double while scoring three runs in the 6-5 triumph over Drexel on Saturday. Later that day McKinnon went 2 for 3 with a run scored during the 6-0 nightcap victory over the Dragons, while she had a single and a run scored in Sunday’s loss to Drexel.
McKinnon, who has started all 50 games this season including 48 at second base, has led the Blue Hen in batting average virtually all season and currently ranks eighth in the conference by hitting .331 on the year. McKinnon also ranks second on the Blue Hens with 43 hits and third with 24 runs scored, while she has increased her production during CAA games by hitting .367 in 18 league contests.
The award was the second straight for McKinnon, who was named the CAA Rookie of the Week last Monday. She shared Rookie of the Week accolades this week with George Mason infielder Kaila Conlon. Towson outfielder Rachel Miller was selected CAA Player of the Week, while her teammate Katie Langmai was tabbed Pitcher of the Week.
McKinnon and the Blue Hens, who are 20-30 overall and 9-9 in league play, host Saint Peter’s in a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday at the Delaware Softball Stadium. UD then welcomes Towson for a three-game series on Friday and Saturday, needing just one victory to qualify for the CAA Tournament.Back To Softball Home Softball Story Archive
