Athlete photoNEWARK, Del. –The University of Delaware softball team won five of its eight games during the 2011 fall season, building momentum into what promises to be an exciting 2012 spring campaign.

The Blue Hens opened their fall slate on September 17 with a pair of games at Penn State, falling to Lock Haven, 4-3, to open the day before dropping a 9-1 decision to the host Nittany Lions. However, Delaware would rebound to win five of its six remaining contests.

UD traveled to Jersey City, N.J. on October 1, and came away with a 4-1 victory over host Saint Peter’s before shutting out Bloomfield College, 6-0. The following day the Blue Hens played their only home contests of the fall, winning the opener of a doubleheader with Marist, 5-3, before dropping the nightcap to the Red Foxes by an identical 5-3 score.

Delaware wrapped up its fall season on October 9 at Temple’s home field in Ambler, Pa., posting a 3-0 shutout of the host Owls in its first game before defeating Wagner, 3-1, during its second contest.
