Five Tournaments, Second Annual Delaware Spring Invitational Highlight 2013 Blue Hen Softball Schedule

NEWARK, Del. -- Five early season tournaments including the second annual University of Delaware Spring Invitational highlight the 2013 Blue Hen softball schedule announced Friday.
Delaware will play 21 home games this season, including the home tournament on Mar. 15-17 and nine contests against Colonial Athletic Association opponents.
The Blue Hens, led by third-year head coach Jaime Wohlbach, open the campaign with five games at the Southeastern Louisiana Tournament on Feb. 8-10, including the season-opener against the host Lions at 4 p.m. Eastern. Delaware will also face Southern, UT Martin, Louisiana Tech and Nicholls State at the tournament, which will be held in Hammond, La.
Following a weekend off, the Blue Hens will play five games at the Jacksonville University Invitational on Feb. 22-24. Delaware will face Mount St. Mary’s twice at the tournament, and will also take on Seton Hall, South Alabama, and the host Dolphins. The Blue Hens will open its March slate the following weekend on Mar. 2-3 at the Norfolk State Spartan Classic, facing Army twice along with single games against Marist and Norfolk State.
Delaware will play three consecutive doubleheaders on Mar. 8-10 at the Hampton University Tournament, taking on Canisius, Siena and the host Pirates in successive twinbills.
The Blue Hens then host the UD Spring Invitational on Mar. 15-17, welcoming Norfolk State, Hartford, St. Francis (Pa.) and Villanova for the three-day, 10-game tournament. Delaware remains home to host La Salle in a non-conference doubleheader on Mar. 20, before opening CAA play with a three-game series at Drexel on Mar. 23-24.
UD plays its conference home opener the following weekend by hosting Towson for three games on Mar. 30-31, and then heads to Army for a non-league twinbill on Apr. 2.
The Blue Hens are back on the road for a weekend series at George Mason on Apr. 6-7, and after a home doubleheader against Lafayette on Apr. 9, head to Hofstra for a three-game series on Apr. 13-14.
Delaware is back home the following week, hosting Rider in a non-conference twinbill on Apr. 17 before welcoming James Madison to Newark for a three-game set on Apr. 20-21. The Blue Hens will play their final road games the following week, heading to St. Peter’s for a doubleheader on Apr. 24 and travelling to Georgia State for a weekend series with the Panthers on Apr. 27-28.
Following a home twinbill with Villanova on May 1, Delaware wraps up its regular season on May 3-4 with a three-game home series with UNCW.
The four-team CAA Tournament will be held May 8-10 on the campus of the regular season champion. The Blue Hens will be looking to qualify for the tournament for the third consecutive year, after earning the fourth seed in each of Wolhbach’s first two years at Delaware.
