February 15, 2012
RICHMOND, Va. –University of Delaware junior righthander Hannah Rust was named the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
Rust, a native of Greenwood, Del. (Greenwood Mennonite), earned her first career win as a Blue Hen during Delaware’s 2-1 triumph over Presbyterian on Saturday afternoon. She allowed just one earned run on five hits while striking out six batters in the victory.
After the Blue Hens went ahead for good in the bottom of the third, Rust made the lead stand up by allowing just a walk and no hits over the next three innings. She then struck out the first two batters during the top of the seventh, and after two singles, UD first baseman Alicea Coy threw out a Blue Hose runner at third base to end the game.
Delaware, which also fell to Charlotte, 4-3, during its season opener on Saturday, carries a 1-1 record into this weekend’s action at the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament.Back To Softball Home Softball Story Archive
