University of Delaware Softball Team Opens Colonial Athletic Association Play This Weekend at Towson

TOWSON, Md. -- The University of Delaware softball team opens its Colonial Athletic Association schedule this weekend when the Blue Hens play a three-game series at Towson.
The Blue Hens and Tigers are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12 noon and a single game on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m. at the Tiger Sports Complex.
Delaware enters its conference opener with a 4-23-1 overall record, after dropping a 3-0 decision to Delaware State in Wednesday’s opener before rallying to tie the nightcap, 5-5, with the Hornets.
The Blue Hens are led by sophomore second baseman Michelle McKinnon, who is batting .306 with a team-high 14 runs scored to go with 26 hits. Freshman third baseman Jess Grisler is hitting .300 with a team-high 27 hits and six doubles, while Lara Andrews boasts a .288 batting average while leading the squad with 14 runs batted in.
Junior righthander Hannah Rust is 2-5 with a 4.70 earned run average in the circle for Delaware, while classmate Chenxi Jiao is 1-9 with a 4.88 ERA.
Towson enters the weekend with a 13-13 mark, and the Tigers were swept in a doubleheader at Bethune-Cookman on Tuesday. Erika Stasch leads the Tigers with a .367 batting average, 29 hits, nine doubles, six home runs and 23 RBI, while Brianna Jones is hitting .341 with 28 hits, four homers and 20 runs batted in. Andrea Stevenson is the third Towson player hitting over .300, as she has recorded a .308 average so far while crossing the plate a team-best 18 times.
Katie Lingmai is 7-4 with a 2.24 earned run average to lead the Tigers pitching staff, while Miss McCormick is 3-4 with a 2.83 ERA.
The two rivals have faced each other during every season since 1976, while Towson took three of the four meetings last season including a win in the CAA Tournament.
Following this weekend’s action, the Blue Hens return to action on Tuesday, Mar. 27 with a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader at Villanova.
