Blue Hens’ Softball Game Set For Sunday vs. Mount St. Mary’s at Jacksonville Invitational Rained Out

Athlete photoJACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of Delaware softball team’s game scheduled for Sunday against Mount St. Mary’s on the final day of the Jacksonville Invitational was canceled due to rain.

The Blue Hens split their four games at the tournament, and are now 6-2 on the season. Delaware defeated Mount St. Mary’s, 5-4 in eight innings, and Seton Hall, 5-2, on Friday before falling to South Alabama, 1-0, and the host Dolphins, 8-2, on Saturday.

South Alabama, which is receiving votes in this week’s NFCA Top 25 Poll, was the tournament champion after winning all four of its games. Jacksonville finished in second place with a 2-1 record, while the Blue Hens were third with a 2-2 mark. Seton Hall went 1-3 over the weekend, while the Mount dropped all three of its contests.

UD freshman centerfielder Hannah George batted a team-best .571 during the weekend, while senior third baseman Lara Andrews hit .462 with team-highs of six hits and three RBI. Sophomore Jessica Grisler batted .333 with a pair of runs scored at the invitational while Shelby Jones, Amanda Stacevicz and Mary O’Reilly all hit .250 in Jacksonville.

Freshman Kiersten Coffman went 1-0 with a 0.57 earned run average in two appearances over the weekend for the Blue Hens, while senior Chenxi Jiao was 1-1 with a 3.28 ERA.

Delaware is back in action next weekend with five games at the Norfolk State Spartan Classic. The Blue Hens will take on Norfolk State Friday at 2:30 p.m., face Army at 9 a.m. at Marist at 11 a.m. on Saturday, and battle Army at 1 p.m. and Norfolk State at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
