University of Delaware Softball Head Coach Jaime Wohlbach Announces Signing of Five High School Standouts

NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware softball head coach Jaime Wohlbach has announced the signing of five high school standouts who have signed National Letters of Intent with UD and will begin playing for the Blue Hens during the 2014 season. Sarah Bencivenga, Abby Cline, Megan Largey, Emily Sanchez, and Danielle
“Boo” Wissinger will enroll at Delaware in the fall and comprise the Blue Hens’ Class of 2017.
Bencivenga (above right), a native of Toms River, N.J., was a second team All-State and All-Shore selection in both the 2010 and 2012 seasons. She was the 2011 team MVP at Toms River East High School, and earned the squad’s defensive player award last spring after recording a school record 26 assists from centerfield. A four-year varsity player, Bencivenga led Toms River East to first place in its division during each of the last three years, and to the 2011 and 2012 Ocean County Tournament championship.
Cline (above left), a native of Millington, N.J., is a four-year letterwinner at Watchung Hill Regional High School. She was a first team All-Skyland Conference and All-County selection last year, and also was named the 2012 Somerset County Tournament Most Valuable Player. An honor roll student, Cline was also named team MVP of the swimming team duringher freshman year.
Largey (middle right), a native of Dana Point, Calif., is a two-year letterwinner at Dana Hills High School. She was named the team’s Most Valuable Player last season, and helped lead Dana Hills to the 2011 Seaview League championship. Largey also plays for the OC Elite 18U travel team, and has been a mentor and pitching coach for her local recreation league squad.
Sanchez (below left), a native of Los Angeles, Calif., has led Schurr High School to consecutive Almont League titles during her first two years at the school. A first team All-North Region selection in each of the last two seasons, Sanchez was named the team’s Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore and team MVP as a junior. She was selected first team All-C.I.F.State Southern Section both seasons, and last year was named the Almont League MVP. Sanchez was also a first team All-Area selection in 2011 before earning second team honors a year ago.
Wissinger (below right), a native of Hagerstown, Md., has been a four-year starter and letterwinner at North Hagerstown High School. She was named first team All-County in each of her last two years, after earning honorable mention accolades as a freshman. Wissinger also was selected first team All-Conference during her junior year, second team as a sophomore, and honorable mention as a freshman. A two-year team captain, Wissinger is a distinguished honor roll student who is amember of the National Honor Society.
