Blue Hen Freshman Gabby Klecko Named Colonial Athletic Association Softball Co-Rookie of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. -- University of Delaware freshman Gabby Klecko was named the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Co-Rookie of the Week on Tuesday after helping lead the Blue Hens to a perfect weekend at the Hampton Lady Pirate Classic.
Klecko (Colts Neck, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) paced the Blue Hens with six hits and three stolen bases as Delaware won all four of its games at the tournament, batting .500 with two RBI and a pair of runs scored.
Klecko, who started two games in centerfield and two as the team’s designated player, went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored during Friday’s 10-0 win over Canisius, and added a run-scoring single in the 7-3 triumph over Siena on Saturday. She then went 3 for 3 with a double and two stolen bases in the 2-1 victory over Hampton, and scored the winning run against the Pirates.
Klecko has appeared in 13 games while making eight starts this year, and is batting .346 with nine hits, six runs scored and three RBI for the Blue Hens.
Klecko shared CAA Rookie of the Week honors with Taylor Matkins of UNCW. Sarah Mooney of James Madison was selected the CAA Player of the Week, while her teammate Jailyn Ford picked up Pitcher of the Week accolades.
Klecko and the Blue Hens, who are 14-3 on the season and have won five straight games, open their home schedule this weekend when UD hosts the Delaware Spring Invitational on Friday through Sunday.
