(top right), Jillian Meyers (middle right) and Alyssa Walton (bottom right) will all don the Blue and Gold next year, and continue the storied program as the team’s 2011 recruiting class.
Bryant, a 6-0 middle hitter from Greensboro, N.C., has been a two-year captain and MVP at Walter Hines High School. She was named to the All-Conference, All-Area and All-County teams in 2009 and 2010.
She was also featured in the January 2010 edition of Volleyball Magazine’s “Roll Call” while playing for the Piedmont Volleyball Club. She also competed on the USA High Performance International team in Arizona in 2008.
“Chandler is a dynamic, athletic player with a very high ceiling,” said Kenny. “She is a hard worker and will be a terrific teammate. I look for big things from Chandler in the future.”
Meyers, a 6-2 middle hitter from Mission Viejo, Calif., is a team captain on her Mission Viejo High School team that leads the Sea View league standings.
She is a Scholar Athlete, and a frequent visitor on the Principal’s Honor Roll. She is also the school’s Yearbook Editor.
Meyers will become an Exercise Science major when she arrives at Delaware. She also plays club ball fro the Goldenwest Volleyball Club.
“Jill is a tall middle blocker with a natural physical presence,” said Kenny. “Once she learns the pace and level of play at the Division I level she will be a dominant middle for us.”
Walton, a 6-0 outside hitter from Glendale, Calif., has been exceptional indoor and beach volleyball player since starting club ball at age 10. She is a captain at Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in 2010 and has been locally and nationally recognized.
She is on the Under Armour All-America Watch List, as well as being mentioned in the Los Angeles Daily News “Players to Watch – Top Ten”. She was also named on the prepvolleyball.com “Soph. 79” list.
Now
a member of the Legacy Volleyball Club, she led her Legacy 17-1’s to the Junior Nationals in just the second year of the team.
On the beach she finished second in the points race for California in 2010 after advancing to the State Beach Volleyball Championships for the second year in a row. She also won four tournaments, placed second at two tournaments and finished third in three different tournaments. In all, she played in nine California Beach Volleyball Association events this past summer.
“Alyssa is a ball control outside hitter that knows the game well, plays all the time on the beach and indoors and has a high volleyball IQ.” Kenny added, “she is someone we believe can come in and challenge for playing time immediately.”
The class of 2011 will join the Blue Hens as they will strive for their third straight CAA regular season championship next season. They have won two of the past three CAA Tournament Championships as well, and are the number one seed going into this year’s tournament, starting on November 20.
