University of Delaware to Host 2010 CAA Volleyball Championship November 20-21

NEWARK, Del. - - The Colonial Athletic Association Volleyball Championship is coming to Viera Court and the Carpenter Sports Building as the University of Delaware earned the top seed, and the right to host the annual tournament this weekend, November 20-21.
Delaware (24-5, 13-1 CAA) locked up the top seed prior to this past weekend meetings against UNC Wilmington and Georgia State, but extended its winning streak to 12 straight with a pair of four-set victories.
Saturday’s first semifinal match will feature #2 James Madison (22-7, 10-4 CAA) and #3 Northeastern (18-10, 9-5 CAA) at 5 p.m. The nightcap will consists of the Blue Hens taking on #4 VCU (11-19, 9-5 CAA) at 7:30 p.m. The two winners will meet Sunday at 5 p.m. for the CAA championship and the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Delaware has now won back-to-back CAA regular season championships, sharing the title a season ago with VCU. They have also captured two of the last three CAA Tournament titles but were ousted in the semifinals to eventual champions George Mason last season in their quest for a three-peat.
James Madison is making its first tournament appearance since 2007 and will be seeking its first CAA championship in 10 years. Northeastern has now secured a spot in four of the last five tournaments, including the top seed in 2008, and are the only team in the field to have never won a championship trophy. VCU, runners-up of two of the last four championships, is in the tournament for the third consecutive year. The Huskies will be looking for their first title since 2005.
Tickets to Saturday’s semifinals are $10.00 for adults and $7.00 for children under the age of 17. These ticket prices cover admission to both semifinal matches. Admission to Sunday’s championship match is $7.00 for adults and $5 for children under 17. Students from a CAA institution will be admitted free with a valid college ID.
