The Blue Hen volleyball squad, under the direction of Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year Bonnie Kenny, will be looking to continue its dominance in league plays this fall led by the play of senior All-American outside hitter Kim Stewart and sophomore All-CAA outside hitter Alissa Alker. The Hens went 26-6 a year ago when they posted a 13-1 mark in league play to capture the CAA regular season and tournament titles and advance to the NCAA Tournament. Delaware has now advanced to the NCAA Tournament three times in the last four seasons.
The Hens will open the home schedule Aug. 30 vs. the University of Oregon and will also host the likes of Florida State, Northern Iowa, UC Irvine, and Delaware State, as well as seven CAA opponents at Viera Court.
The Delaware field hockey team, led by first-year head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof, will be looking to return to its 2009 form when the Hens captured the CAA title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Hens return eight starters from last year’s team that posted an 8-10 record and narrowly missed a berth in the CAA Tournament. Returning starting goalkeeper Noelle Diana leads the defense while the Hens return No. 2 and 3 leading scorers Melissa LeNoir and Amanda McCardell.
Delaware will open the home schedule Aug. 26 vs. Bryant and will host national powers Duke, North Carolina, Wake Forest, and Old Dominion during the season at Rullo Stadium.
