Blue Hens Move Up One Spot to No. 9 in CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll

BOSTON – Off to a 6-1 start, the University of Delaware moved up one spot in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Women’s Basketball Poll, sliding into the No. 9 spot after being ranked 10th last week, earning 490 points in the poll, which was released Tuesday night.
Delaware is one of three teams in the Colonial Athletic Association ranked in the top-10. Old Dominion University was selected sixth with a 3-3 record, picking up 572 points. James Madison University moved up three spots to No. 10, earning 433 points.
The CAA was further represented in the voting as Drexel University jumped four spots to No. 20 with 180 points. Hofstra University picked up 25 points in the others receiving votes, while UNC Wilmington garnered 22. Virginia Commonwealth University rounded out the CAA point getters with 17.
Green Bay continues to hold onto the No. 1 spot, picking up 774 points and 30 of the 31 first place votes. Bowling Green, which earned the final first place vote, was second with 723 points followed by Florida Gulf Coast with 701 and Princeton, moved up one spot and was fourth with 656 points. Gonzaga rounded out the top five, picking up 632 points.
The Blue Hens have moved up every week of the poll, beginning in the Preseason Poll in the No. 24 spot.
As a squad, the Hens are amongst the top 50 teams in the country in several statistical categories. Delaware sits at 15th in the nation in field-goal percentage defense, allowing opponents to hit just 33.2 percent of their shots. The Hens are one of the best rebounding teams nationally, carrying a rebounding margin of +11.4, ranking them 16th. Delaware is also 16th in the country in blocked shots per game averaging 5.6. Rarely committing a foul, Delaware is No. 21 in personal fouls per game, picking up just 14.4.
The Mid-Major Poll is made up of teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast.
Delaware is idle until Sunday, Dec. 19 when it travels to State College, Pa. to take on the Lady Lions of Penn State. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. in the Bryce Jordan Center.
