Idle Hens Climb to No. 7 in CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll

BOSTON – Despite not playing a game since defeating Navy 60-55 over a week ago, the University of Delaware continued to move up the CollegeInsider.com Women’s Basketball Mid-Major poll, reaching the No. 7 and is the top-ranked team in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Hens moved up two spots from the No. 9 ranking last week.
Delaware, which is currently 6-1 overall and undefeated in its three road games, began the year in the No. 24 slot of the preseason poll. The Hens picked up 550 points in the sixth poll, picking up an additional 60 points from the previous poll.
The top five did not change this week, as Green Bay is still locked in No. 1, earning 754 points and 17 first place votes. Bowling Green was in a close second with 751 points and 11 first place votes, followed by Florida Gulf Coast in third with 711 points and three first place votes. Princeton and Gonzaga rounded out the top five, earning 675 and 623 points, respectively.
Joining the Hens in the poll were several other teams from the CAA. Old Dominion University slipped to ninth after holding the No. 6 spot a week ago, earning 490 points. James Madison University is now in 13th place, picking up 392 points. Drexel University continued to surge, reaching the No. 17 spot with 252 points while Hofstra climbed into the No. 25 slot after not being ranked last week. UNC Wilmington picked up 10 points in the others receiving votes column, while Virginia Commonwealth University picked up one in the same category.
In addition to the CAA, the Mid-Major Poll is made up of teams from the following conferences: America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt and West Coast.
Delaware returns to the road when it makes the trip to State College, Pa. to take on the Lady Lions of Penn State. Tipoff is set for Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Bryce Jordan Center.
