RICHMOND, Va. – After a week in which she scored 75 points, University of Delaware sophomore All-American Elena Delle Donne (at right) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second straight week.

Delle Donne, a Wilmington, Del. native, put up 34 points over BIG EAST opponent Villanova University at home on Tuesday, followed by a career second-best 41 points on the road in a difficult John J. Lee Amphitheater at the Ivy League's Yale University on Saturday night. The Blue Hen's went 2-0 last week, defeating Villanova 69-62 and Yale 79-61.

An early childhood education major, Delle Donne’s 41 points rank second all-time at Delaware for a single game, behind her own mark of 54 set last season. The 41-pointer also ranks fifth in the CAA for a single game.

Last week, she canned 26 of her 44 field goal attempts (59.0 percent), including five of seven from beyond the arc (71.4 percent). She snagged 17 rebounds in the two games, while also going 18 of 20 (90.0 percent) from the free throw line.

This season, Delle Donne has amassed 111 points in just three games, averaging 37 points a night. She has tallied 885 points in just 32 career games, putting up 27.6 a game. Delle Donne is ranked 24th all-time for career points at Delaware, and has surpassed the 30-point benchmark on 10 occasions during her young Blue Hen career.

A candidate for several preseason awards, including the Naismith and Wooden National Player of the Year Watch lists, Delle Donne has now earned 15 weekly honors from the CAA, and was selected as the conference’s Preseason Co-Player of the Year.

Delle Donne and the Blue Hens return home to the Bob Carpenter Center on Tuesday night when they host the Red Flash of Saint Francis (Pa.) University. The game will be Delaware’s first-annual Take a Kid to the Game event. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the opening tipoff slated for 7 p.m.
