NEWARK, Del. -- After being crowned the national mascot champion two weeks ago, Hall of Fame mascot YoUDee, the University of Delaware’s Fightin’ Blue Hen, will host mascot night during Thursday’s women’s basketball game against Northeastern University in the Bob Carpenter Center.
After the first half of the 7 p.m. game, YoUDee and all his friends will play a game of basketball as part of the halftime entertainment.
Joining YoUDee will be fellow Hall of Famer Clutch of the Houston Rockets a member of the NBA Mascot Hall of Fame, as well as the Philadelphia Eagles’ Swoop, all of whom are UD alumni.
Also on hand will be Slapshot of the NHL’s Washington Captials, Screech of the MLB’s Washington Nationals, Poe from the Baltimore Ravens, Wool E. of the Durham Bulls and Rocky Bluewinkle of the near-by Wilmington Blue Rocks.
Reggy the Purple Party Dude of the Raymond Entertainment Group and several air characters will also join in the fun.
YoUDee has been atop the college mascot rankings since 1999, where he took second place at the College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship. He was named the Open Division National Champion in both 2009 and 2011. On August 16, 2006, YoUDee was inducted into the Mascot Hall of Fame as part of the second-ever induction class. He was joined in that class by Clutch and is one of just eight college mascots in the Hall, which is based in YoUDee’s hometown of Newark.
