2011-12 Delaware Women's Basketball Non-Conference Schedule

NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware women’s basketball team could potentially face five squads that reached the postseason this spring as the Blue Hens released their challenging 2011-12 non-conference schedule on Friday.

Delaware opens its slate at home against Rhode Island on Friday, Nov. 11 when the Blue Hens welcome the Rams to the Bob Carpenter Center. UD remains home on Thursday, Nov. 17 to host Penn State, which finished second in the Big Ten a year ago and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament as a No. 6 seed. The contest will be the Nittany Lions’ fourth ever trip to Newark and their first visit since February, 1980.

The Blue Hens then hit the road for three consecutive contests, beginning with a game at Villanova on Tuesday, Nov. 22. Five days later Delaware travels to Saint Bonaventure, which advanced to the WNIT second round in March, on Sunday, Nov. 27. The road stretch concludes on Thursday, Dec. 1 when the Blue Hens travel to Princeton, which captured the Ivy League crown last year to advance to the NCAA Tournament.

Delaware returns home on Monday, Dec. 5 to face yet another squad that appeared in 2011 postseason play, as Delaware welcomes Yale to the Carpenter Center. The Bulldogs tied for second place in the Ivy League a year ago and appeared in the WNIT.

The Blue Hens are back on the road on Sunday, Dec. 11 at Wake Forest of the Atlantic Coast Conference, and following an eight-day break, head to Big East opponent Providence to face the Friars on Monday, Dec. 19.

Delaware’s challenging slate concludes on December 28-29 when the Blue Hens compete in the University of Maryland Christmas Tournament. UD will face East Carolina in the opening round, before taking on either Lafayette or the host Terrapins on the second day. Maryland earned a No. 4 seed in the 2011 NCAA Tournament and advanced to the second round.

The Blue Hens will again play an 18-game Colonial Athletic Association schedule featuring two games against Drexel, George Mason, Hofstra, Northeastern, Towson, UNC Wilmington, and William & Mary. Delaware will also face Old Dominion and VCU at the Bob Carpenter Center, while travelling to Georgia State and James Madison. The CAA schedule is not expected to be released until October.
