RICHMOND, Va. – University of Delaware junior All-American Elena Delle Donne earned Colonial Athletic Association honors on Monday after helping the now No. 7 ranked Blue Hens to a 79-53 victory over William & Mary last week at the Kaplan Arena.
Delle Donne, the nation’s leading scorer with 28.3 points per game, put up a game-high 26 points to go with 11 boards en route to her 13th double-double of the season. She shot 60 percent from the floor, connecting on a trio of three-pointers while also adding three blocks on the day.
In addition to the CAA award, Delle Donne was also named the CAA Player of the Week by College Sports Madness, earning the award for the sixth time this season.
With the victory in Williamsburg, Delaware (27-1, 18-0 CAA) completed an undefeated CAA regular season and set the school record for wins in a season. Delaware now ranks sixth in the nation with a school record-tying 17 consecutive game win streak.
The Hens are the first conference team to go undefeated in league play since Old Dominion went 18-0 a decade ago during the 2001-02 season. Delaware has now won a school-record 19 straight CAA games since last season.
Delle Donne collected CAA Player of the Week accolades for the ninth time this season and the 17th time in her three-year Blue Hen career. She is joined by Drexel’s Kamile Nacickaite in sharing this week’s recognition.
Delaware, which secured the top seed in the CAA Tournament after defeating Drexel on Feb. 19, heads to the CAA Tournament to face the winner of the Towson vs. Old Dominion game on Friday, March 9 at The Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md. for a noon tipoff.
