University of Delaware Standout Delle Donne Earns CAA Women's Basketball Player of the Week Honors

Athlete photoRICHMOND, Va. – After collecting two straight double doubles, the 37th and 38th of her career, University of Delaware senior Elena Delle Donne (at right) was named this week's Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

Delle Donne helped lead the Blue Hens to the Blue Sky Classic title with Delaware wins over Villanova and Duquesne.

The All-American forward was named the Tournament MVP after averaging 20.0 points and 12.5 rebounds per game for UD in addition to six blocks, three assists and a steal.

In the Blue Hens’ 60-45 victory over the Dukes, Delle Donne posted her 75th career 20-plus point contest as she finished the game with 23 points.

Delle Donne leads Delaware with an average of 22.2 points and 9.8 rebounds per contest through five games played after previously missing six games due to symptoms of Lyme Disease.

Towson’s Dominique Johnson was named the CAA Rookie of the Week.

Delaware has little down time as the Hens next travel to New York to take on the BIG EAST’s St. John’s in their final non-conference contest on Tuesday, Jan. 2 in a nationally broadcast affair on ESPN3.com. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. at Carnesecca Arena.

CAA play kicks off for Delaware on January 10 as the Hens host George Mason at 7 p.m. at the Bob Carpenter Center.
