Cross Country - Second-year member of the Blue Hens. 2011 Season: Competed in six events • finished 48th in the UMES Lid-Lifter Invitational in 20:51 and 122nd in the Fordham Invitational in 21:14 • placed 47th at the Delaware Invitational in 25:37 and 125th in the open race of the Paul Short Invitational in 25:05 • came in 28th at the Blue & Gold Invitational in 26:14 and 21st in the coaches division race of the ECAC Championships in 20:35.
High School: Member of the cross country, swimming and spring track teams at St. Mark’s High School • first team All-Catholic Conference selection in cross country • set the school record for the fastest average time during senior year • coached by former UD cross country standout Mike DiGennaro • earned first honors and second honors.
Personal: Elizabeth “Beth” Ann Sowden ("sow-din") • daughter of Alfred and Jane Sowden • has two older brothers, Alfred and Robert, and an older sister, Amy • father played football at Delaware while brother, Alfred, played basketball at Wilmington University • nursing major at Delaware.
