Delaware Places 11th at ECAC Championships to Wrap Up 2010 Season

NEW YORK -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s cross country teams closed out their seasons Saturday afternoon with strong showings at the IC4A and ECAC regional championships at Van Cortlandt State Park.

Delaware junior Andy Weaver led the Blue Hen men for the fourth straight meet as he posted an 11th place overall finish in a time of 25:20.5 in leading UD to a 13th place team finish in the 19-team field.

The Blue Hen women posted an 11th place finish out of 12 teams and had two individual top 50 finishers as Jessie Ermak placed 39th overall in 18:45.1 while Jen Watunya (at right) finished 44th with a time of 18:49.7. Ermak led the Blue Hens for the second straight meet.

In the men’s race, Duke won the team title with 44 points followed by Duquesne, Harvard, Central Connecticut, Marist, George Mason, Columbia, Albany, William & Mary, and Syracuse in the top 10. Christian Gonzalez of Rider was the individual winner with a time of 24:52.7.

On the women’s side, James Madison captured the team title with 47 points and was followed by William & Mary, LaSalle, Columbia, Syracuse, George Mason, Duquesne, Iona, Boston College, and Boston University. JMU’s Alison Parris led all runners with a time of 17:27.4.

Also for the UD men, Dan Feeney was 44th (25:56.2), Ed Bonnevie finished 56th (26:10.8), Marshall Hawkins finished 113th (26:58.0), and Taylor Hinson posted a 160th place (28:54.1) finish.

Also for the UD women, Leeann Siewell was 67th (19:19.3), Karen Mandrachia was 75th (19:27.5), Christine Sloat was 81st (19:39.7), Katie Deinert was 85th (19:51.9), Katy Loughran placed 100th (20:15.4), Ali Lambert was 101st, and Kaylee Pineault finished 106th (20:50).

Delaware also had nine runners compete in the ECAC Coaches (Junior Varsity) Race with the Hens being led by Lindsay Prettyman, who placed third with a time of 19:59.5 and by Alex Finocchio, who crossed the finish line in ninth place with a clocking of 20:22.0.
