Blue Hen Women Post Seventh Place Finish at Colonial Athletic Association Meet

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The University of Delaware men posted a fifth place finish and the Blue Hen women came in with a seventh overall finish at the Colonial Athletic Association Cross Country Championships Saturday morning at UNC Wilmington.
The Blue Hen men, led by top 20 finishes from Andy Weaver and Dan Feeney, earned 115 points to finish fifth overall in the eight-kilometer race, just two points away from Virginia Commonwealth. William & Mary, led by six runners in the top 10, captured its 11th straight team championship with 17 points.
George Mason was second with 55 points followed by Northeastern, VCU, Delaware, UNC Wilmington, Hofstra, and Georgia State. The Hens have now placed in the top five four straight years.
The Delaware women, led by a 34th place finish from Katy Loughran (at right), earned 182 total points and finished seventh overall in the team standings. James Madison, which finished second each of the last three years, captured the team title with 28 points as Allison Parris and Stacey Nobles finished first and second.
William & Mary, the six-time defending team champion, was second in the six-kilometer race with 46 points followed by George Mason, Northeastern, Towson, UNC Wilmington, Delaware, Georgia State, Virginia Commonwealth, and Hofstra.
Weaver, who led the Hens for the second straight meet, finished 15th overall with a time of 25:03 while Feeney was 16th in a clocking of 25:05. Ed Bonnevie was 29th in 25:53 while Steve Vincent was 31st (25:55), Marshall Hawkins was 36th (26:10), Ryan Kaiser was 50th (26:34), Taylor Hinson finished 55th (26:59), and Nate Parmenter was 60th (27:41). William & Mary’s Zach Gates won the individual title, crossing the tape in a time of 24:16.
Loughran, a sophomore who improved from a 48th place finish at the meet a year ago, led the Blue Hen women for the fourth time this season when she crossed the finish line in a time of 22:49. Jen Watunya was 37th in 22:57, Katie Deinert was 40th (23:01), Christine Sloat was 43rd (23:06), Karen Mandrachia posted a 44th place finish (23:09), Leeann Seiwell was 57th (23:36), Lindsay Prettyman placed 58th (23:36), Ali Lambert recorded a 72nd place showing (24:02), Alex Finocchio was 73rd (24:10), and Alyssa Kennedy was 74th (24:13).
Both Delaware teams will off next weekend in preparation for the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region Championships Nov. 13 at Penn State.
