University of Delaware Announces 2012 Blue Hen Women’s Cross Country Team Award Winners

NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware first-year women’s cross country head coach Wendy McFarlane has announced her team award winners for the recently completed 2012 season.
Junior Lindsay Prettyman was named team Most Valuable Player, junior Kellye Foulke earned the Most Improved Award, freshman Shannon Kelly (at right) was named the Outstanding Rookie, and senior Kayla Koonz earned the team’s UD Sportsmanship Award.
Prettyman (at left), an exercise physiology major from Newark, Del. (St. Mark’s High School), led the team in every race she ran during the 2012, including capturingindividual titles at the season-opening Lehigh Invitational on Aug. 31 and the DelawareInvitational on Sept. 15.
She also placed second at the UD Blue & Gold Invitational, posted a 17th place finish at the Colonial Athletic Association championships, and was 14th at the ECAC championships.
Foulke (at right), a nutrition major from Worcester, Pa. (Methacton HS), competed in seven races in her first season on the squad and registered three top 20 finishes, including a fourth place showing at the Delaware Invitational, seventh place at Lehigh, and eighth place at the Blue & Gold meet.
She also finished 28th at the CAA meet to rank fourth among UD runners.
Kelly, a university studies major from Livingston, N.J. (Livingston High School), competed five times as a rookie in 2012, including a fifth place showing in hercollegiate debut at Lehigh.
She also posted a seventh place finish at the Delaware Invitational and was 30th at the season-ending ECAC championships.
Koonz (at left), an exercise science major from Gardiner, N.Y. (New Paltz HS) and a second-year transfer from the University of Hartford, competed in five races in 2012 with her top finish an 18th placeshowing at the Blue & Gold meet.
She also was 19th at the Delaware Invitational and 48th at Lehigh.
In addition to the team award winners, McFarlane also announced that Prettyman, Emily Gispert, and Michele Lambert will serve as captains for the 2013 season.
