University of Delaware to Host Blue & Gold Invitational Friday at Lums Pond State Park

BEAR, Del. -- The University of Delaware women’s cross country will host a full day of racing on Friday afternoon but the site will be a different one as the Blue Hens welcome collegiate and high school teams to the annual Blue & Gold Invitational at Lums Pond State Park.
The Blue Hens typically use White Clay Creek State Park as their home course but will move festivities south this week for their final home meet of the season.
The women’s collegiate six-kilometer race will open the action at 2 p.m. as Delaware hosts Goldey Beacom, West Chester, Howard, Maryland, George Mason, Mt. St. Mary’s, Delaware Tech, and Maryland-Eastern Shore.
The Blue Hens will be led by their top two runners in junior Lindsay Prettyman and sophomore Nicole Daly.
The meet will be Delaware’s last warm-up before the annual Colonial Athletic Association Championships to be held Oct. 27 at William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
The men’s collegiate eight-kilometer race will follow at 2:45 and will include Goldey Beacom, West Chester, Howard, Mt. St. Mary’s, and Maryland-Eastern Shore.
The High School Girls Varsity 5k run will start at 3:45 p.m. followed by the High School Boys Varsity 5k at 4:30 p.m., the High School Girls Junior Varsity 5k at 5 p.m., and the High School Boy’s Junior Varsity 5k at 5:45 p.m.
Lums Pond State Park is located at 1068 Howell School Road in Bear, Del., approximately nine miles south of the University of Delaware Campus off Route 896.
Fans should be aware that parking fees will be in effect. In-state car will be charged $3, In-state vans $12, Out-of-state cars $6, and Out-of-state vans $24.
