Daly Leads Delaware Women’s Cross Country To Sixth Place Finish at Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The University of Delaware women’s cross country team totaled 197 points to finish in sixth place out of 10 teams Saturday morning at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational hosted by Penn State.
Blue Hen sophomore Nicole Daly (at right) led Delaware by finishing in 19th place by covering the six-kilometer course in 22:19, while freshman Shannon Kelly placed 37th with a time of 23:05. Sophomore Nicole Rittman ran her race in 23:15 to finish in 42nd place, while senior Katie Deinert was just three spots behind in 45th with a time of 23:23.
Freshman Rachel Weinberger finished 54th in 23:34, while junior Emily Gispert came in 55th in 23:39 and sophomore Katrina Steenkamer crossed the line in 23:41 to finish in 56th place.
The host Nittany Lions claimed the team title with 25 points, while Princeton came in second with 52 points. Navy (97), West Virginia (104) and Ohio University (108) rounded out the top five, followed by the Blue Hens.
Julie Accurso of Ohio University won the race by completing the course in 21:03, while Tori Perri led a trio of Penn State runners who finished next as she crossed the line in 21:20.
The Blue Hens return to action on Saturday, September 15 when they host the Delaware Invitational at White Clay Creek State Park in Newark.
