University of Delaware Women’s Cross Country Team Finishes in 19th Place at Paul Short Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Competing in one of the largest cross country meets in the nation, the University of Delaware women’s cross country team finished in 19th place out of 40 teams at the Paul Short Invitational held Friday morning on the campus of Lehigh University.
Blue Hen junior Lindsay Prettyman (at right) was the top UD finisher for the third time in four tournaments this year, as she covered the six-kilometer distance in 21:58 to finish in 87th place. Sophomore Nicole Daly crossed the line in 22:07 to place 99th, while junior Nicole Rittman finished 112th with a time of 22:17.
UD junior Nicole Rittman placed 112th with a time of 22;17, while senior Katie Deinert came in 147th place by finishing in 22:38. Junior Kellye Foulke finished in 22:51 to place 170th, sophomore Meredith Steenkamer was 178th with a time of 22:55, and freshman Shannon Kelly was right behind in 179th, also with a time of 22:55.
Cornell placed three runners among the top nine to claim the team championship with 55 points, while William & Mary finished second with 102 points. Abbey D’Agostino of Dartmouth was the individual winner as she crossed the finish line with a time of 19:58.
Additionally, seven Blue Hens competed in the six-kilometer open race on Friday. Delaware junior Alyssa Kennedy led the way by finishing 31st in 22:43, while freshman Rachel Weinberger was 39th with a time of 22:55. Junior Emma Sidoriak placed 66th in 23:33, while senior Kayla Koonz crossed the line in 23:36 to finish 75th. UD junior Francine Gebbia placed 100th in 24:02, sophomore Samantha Reilly was 183rd in 25:31, and freshman Danielle Wegrzyn finished 199th in 25:51.
Delaware is back in action on Friday, October 12 when it hosts the Blue & Gold Invitational at Lums Pond State Park in Newark. The men’s race will begin at 2 p.m. with the women’s race scheduled to begin at 2:45 p.m.
