University of Delaware Women’s Golfers Tied For Ninth Place Following First Day of Rutgers Invitational

Athlete photoPISCATAWAY, N.J. -- The University of Delaware women’s golf squad recorded a 323 team score to end the day tied for ninth place out of 21 teams following the first round of the Rutgers Invitational on Friday.

Seton Hall leads the team standings following an opening round of 299, followed by the host Scarlet Knights at 304. Saint John’s sits in third place at 312, Monmouth is fourth at 313, and Fairleigh Dickinson and Dartmouth are tied for fifth place at 314.

Blue Hen senior Frida Nilsson carded a six over par 41-37-78 on the par 72, 6,034-yard Rutgers University Golf Course, ending the day tied for 23rd place in the individual standings. Freshman Vimonthip Benjasupawan (at right) also ended the day at six over par with a 39-39-78 to finish in a tie for 23rd place. Playing as an individual, Delaware sophomore Amanda Terzian fired a seven over par 38-41-79 to conclude her round in a tie for 33rd place.

UD sophomore Annie Bowlsby carded a 10 over par 42-40-82 to finish the round tied for 57th place, while classmate Baralee Theinthong is tied for 77th place after she fired a 13 over par 43-42-85. Freshman Nathalie Filler fired a 16 over par 46-42-88 and will enter Saturday’s round tied for 94th place.

Christina Cantu of Seton Hall leads the individual standings with an even par 37-35-72, while four players are one shot back.

The second and final round of the Rutgers Invitational will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
