Frida Nilsson Helps Blue Hen Women’s Golf Team Tie For Sixth Place at Rutgers Invitational

Athlete photoPISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Blue Hen senior Frida Nilsson finished in 15th place in the individual standings while the University of Delaware women’s golf team tied for sixth place out of 21 squads this weekend at the Rutgers Invitational.

After recording a 323 team score on Friday, the Blue Hens improved by 10 strokes to card a 313 on Saturday and finish with a two-round score of 636. Seton Hall claimed the team title with  a 603 score, while the host Scarlet Knights finished second at 610. Saint John’s finished in third place at 620, while Dartmouth was fourth at 634 and Fairleigh Dickinson rounded out the top five with a 635 team score.

Nilsson (at right) carded a four over par 76 on Saturday on the par 72, 6,034-yard Rutgers University Golf Course, finishing in 15th place with a 10 over par 78-76-154. Freshman Vimonthip Benjasupawan fired a seven over par 79 during her second round, ending with a 13 over par 78-79-157 to finish in a tie for 21st place.

Appearing in her first invitational of the fall season after missing the first two tournaments with an injury, UD sophomore Andrea Slane recorded a four over par 76 on Saturday to finish in a tie for 21st place with a 13 over par 81-76-157. Classmate Amanda Terzian, who like Slane was competing in the tournament as an individual, fired a nine over par 81 on the day and ended the invitational tied for 34th place at 79-81-160, 16 over par.

Sophomore Annie Bowlsby also carded a nine over par 81 during Saturday’s round, finishing in a tie for 50th place with an 82-81-163, 19 over par. Fellow sophomore Baralee Theinthong, who fired a seven over par 79 on the day, concluded the tournament tied for 54th place with a 20 over par 85-79-164.

Freshman Nathalie Filler, the Blue Hens’ top finisher during the first two tournaments of the year, also carded a seven over par 79 during her final round and ended the invitational tied for 67th place at 88-79-167, 23 over par.

Harin Lee of Saint John’s captured medalist honors after carding a two over par 73-73-146, while five players finished four shots back.

The Blue Hens are back in action next Saturday and Sunday when they compete in the Indiana Hoosier Invitational at Bellterra Resort Golf Course in Florence, Ind.
