Caruso Wins Two Events To Lead Blue Hen Women’s Indoor Track & Field To Second Place Finish at Delaware Invitational

NEWARK, Del. -- The Blue Hen women’s indoor track and field team earned 177.5 points to finish second out of five teams at the Delaware Invitational held Friday night at the Delaware Field House.
Navy took the women’s Division I title with 245 points, followed by Delaware, Coppin State with 126.5 points, Villanova with 31 points, and American with 15 points. Ursinus easily won the Division II/III meet with 225 points, ahead of Lincoln (71), USMMA (44), Wesley (34) and Holy Family (31).
Sophomore Vicky Caruso (at right) led the Blue Hens by winning the 200 meter dash in 25:33 and the 400 meter dash in 57.64, while Lindsay Prettyman was the other Blue Hen to win an event by capturing the 800 meter run in 2:26.54.
Prettyman also came in third place by finishing the one mile run in 5:27.72, while Kristi Cox placed second in the 400 meter dash in 59.18 and third in the 200 meter dash in 26.41. Asia Hollis finished second in the 60 meter dash in 8.01 and was fourth in the 200 meter dash in 26.66 for the Blue Hens.
Karen Mandrachia placed second in the 800 meter run in 2:28.11 and fourth in the one meter run in 5:28.87, while Paige Morris came in second with a long jump of 16’10.75”. Carly Simmons was third in the 800 meter run in 2:29.75, while Courtney Markow was third in the pole vault with a mark of 10’11.75” and Alana Pantale placed third in the shot put with a mark of 40’2.25”.
The UD 4x400 meter relay team of Hollis, Rachel Wasserman, Marla Woodarek and Markow was third in its race in 4:14.12, while the team of Prettyman, Simmons, Emily Gispert and Mandrachia placed fifth in 4:20.99. Gispert was also fourth in the 800 meter run in 2:32.68, while Jessie Ermak came in fourth in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:47.21. Leah Putman was fourth in the 60 meter hurdles in 9.58, while Briana Gray also placed fourth with a high jump of 5’1”.
The Blue Hens return to action next Friday, January 14 when Delaware competes in the New York City Gotham Cup at the NYC Armory.
