NEW YORK -- University of Delaware standout Vicky Caruso (at right) continued her climb up the Blue Hen record books Friday night as she posted two more victories and established another school record for the Blue Hen women’s indoor track & field team at the New York Armory Collegiate Challenge.
The sophomore from Stockholm, N.J. (Walkill Valley HS) led a strong showing by the Blue Hen sprinters as she captured both the 200 meter and 400 meter competitions, breaking her own school record in the 200 event and posting a personal best time in the 400 race. Her time of 24.36 in the 200 meters broke her own UD record set last season as a freshman and her 400 meter clocking of 55.28 marked the second best time in UD annals. Caruso has now captured 13 first place meet finishes this season.
Caruso’s exploits were among 12 top 10 finishes posted by Delaware athletes Friday night, including third place showings by freshman Alana Pantale in the shot put (43-10 3/4) and sophomore Nijah Dupiche in the 400 meters (56.67) and fourth place finishes from freshman Courtney Markow in the pole vault (10-11 3/4), Dupiche in the 200 meters (25.48), and senior Kristi Cox in the 400 meters (57.31). Dupiche posted two personal bests with her time in the 400 meters the third best in school history.
Other top 10 finishes included freshman Lindsay Prettyman placing seventh in the 800 meters (2:18.06), freshman Paige Morris finishing ninth in the long jump (17-2 3/4), senior Asia Hollis posting a ninth place finish in the 400 meters (58.16), freshman Aretah Ettarh placing ninth in the shot put (36-11 3/4), and senior Leah Putman posting a 10th place showing in the 60 meter hurdles (9.16).
