University of Delaware Women's Indoor Track & Field Posts Eight Top 10 Finishes at Maryland Invitational

LANDOVER, Md. -- A third place finish in the distance medley relay and a school record in the 600 meters highlighted eight top 10 finishes by the University of Delaware women’s indoor track & field team at the University of Maryland Terrapin Indoor Invitational Saturday at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex.
Delaware’s quartet of freshman Lindsay Prettyman, senior Yesenia Boynton (at right), freshman Emily Gispert, and senior Karen Mandrachia ran to a time of 12:48.78 to place third overall and post the Blue Hens’ best finish of the day. Blue Hen freshman Carly Simmons also led the way as she posted a seventh place finish in the 600 meters with a school record time of 1:43.41, breaking the record of 1:44.88 set by teammate Marla Woodarek last season.
The Blue Hens finished 16th in the final team standings. Host Maryland captured the team title with 140.5 points followed by Hampton, Johns Hopkins, North Carolina Central, Essex Community College, Fairleigh Dickinson, UMBC, Richmond, Howard, and Johnson C. Smith in the 23-team field.
Delaware’s distance medley relay team placed third overall with a time of 12:48.78, placing behind winner Fairleigh Dickinson (12:34.57) and runner-up Johns Hopkins (12:37.27).
Also for the Blue Hens, freshman Alana Pantale was eighth in the shot put (40-8 1/4), freshman Paige Morris finished eighth in the long jump (16-8 3/4), senior Briana Gray was eighth in the high jump (5-0 1/4), freshman Alyssa Kennedy was eighth in the 1,000 meters (3:13.72), junior Katie Deinert was ninth in the 3,000 meters (11:06.69), and sophomore Rachel Wasserman was ninth in the 600 meters (1:44.25).
Pantale also finished 16th in the weight throw (39-10 3/4) and Prettyman was 16th in the 800 meters (2:25.95) as the Hens had 18 overall top 20 finishes.
The performance at Maryland capped a busy weekend for the Blue Hen women’s indoor track and field team. Members of the Blue Hens also competed at the Great Dane Invitational Friday in New York City and at the Lehigh Invitational Friday and Saturday.
Delaware will return to action next Saturday, Jan. 29, when the Hens host the Thomson Invitational at the Delaware Field House.
