University of Delaware Women's Indoor Track & Field Caps 2011 Season with Two All-East Performances at ECAC Championships

BOSTON -- The University of Delaware women’s indoor track & field squad capped its 2011 indoor season with a successful showing Sunday afternoon as the Blue Hens posted two top eight finishes to earn All-East honors at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center.
As she did all season, Blue Hen sophomore sprinter Vicky Caruso (at right) led the way for Delaware as she posted a fourth place finish in the 200 meters and teamed with sophomore Nijah Dupiche and seniors Kristi Cox and Asia Hollis to place eighth in the 4 x 400 meter relay.
Both finishes earned All-East honors for the Blue Hens.
Caruso, who won 13 individual meet titles and set two school records this season, earned All-East honors for the second straight year as she ran to a time of 24.46 in the 200 meters to place fourth overall. Trisha Ann Hawthorne of Connecticut won the race with a time of 23.58 and was followed by Quina Fortune of VCU, Shelby Walton of Boston University, and Caruso.
In the relay event, Delaware’s tandem ran to a time of 3:47.43 to place eighth out of nine teams in the finals. Hampton University won the race with a time of 3:43.51 and was followed by Connecticut, Mt. St. Mary’s, Harvard, Maryland-Eastern Shore, VCU, Temple, Delaware, and Delaware State.
Connecticut won the overall team title with 82.5 points and was followed by Cornell, George Mason, Hampton, and VCU in the team standings. Delaware earned six total p oints and finished 36th in the team standings.
Caruso also earned All-East honors as a freshman in 2010 when she finished seventh in the 200 meters. She also teamed with Hollis, Cox, and since graduated Cristine Marquez to earn All-East honors in the 4 x 400 meters with sixth place showing.
