University of Delaware Athletes Capture Four Firsts at John Covert Indoor Track & Field Classic at Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The University of Delaware got first place finishes from Kellye Foulke, Katrina Steenkamer (bottom left), Kelsey Evancho (at right), and Paige Morris to highlight the 21st annual John Covert Indoor Track & Field Classic Saturday at Lehigh University’s Rauch Field House.
The Delaware performances were part of 28 top 10 finishes at the meet, which included teams from Delaware, Lehigh, Messiah, Muhlenberg, Moravian, Gettysburg, Loyola, Kutztown, Shippensburg, Alvernia, West Chester, and Lafayette.
Foulke won the 5,000 meters in 17:58.38, Steenkamer captured the 3,000 meters in 10:33.05, Evancho won the high jump in 5-7, and Morris was the winner in the triple jump with a leap of 38-6 1/4. Evancho’s jump was two inches better than her previous best.
Delaware also had three runner-up finishes as Kelly Knauer was second in the 400 meters (1:02.12), Michelle Mazzo was second in the 1,000 meters (3:15.66), and Alana Pantale was the runner-up in the shot put (43-11 3/4).
Several Blue Hen athletes had multiple Top 10 finishes as Pantale was also third in the weight throw (52-4), Morris was third in the 200 meters (27.16) and fourth in the long jump (17-8 3/4), Knauer was third in the 4 x 400 meter relay (4:14.66), Rachel Wasserman was third in the 4 x 400 meter relay and sixth in the mile (5:25.98), Monica Hagenauer was fourth in the weight throw (48-6) and seventh in the shot put (37-9), and Evancho was ninth in the triple jump (32-11).
Delaware will return to action next weekend when the Hens compete at the Lafayette/Rider Invitational at the New York City Armory on Friday, Feb. 8.
