Delaware Athletes Post 26 Top 10 Finishes at University of Maryland Indoor Track Invitational

LANDOVER, Md. -- University of Delaware women’s indoor track & field performers posted 26 top 10 finishes, including first place showings in the distance medley relay and pole vault events at the University of Maryland Terrapin Invitational Saturday at the Prince George’s Sports and Learning Complex.
The Blue Hens picked up two wins on the day as Courtney Markow (at right) won the pole vault competition with a leap of 11-feet, 9 3/4-inches and the distance medle relay team of Meredith Steenkamer, Chelsi Campbell, Shantel Dickens, and Lindsay Prettyman crossed the finish line first with a time of 12:26.26.
Other highlights saw Alana Pantale post the second best shot put throw in school history, Latoya James produced the top time in the preliminaries of the 60 meter hurdles before placing eighth in the championships, and Campbell (1:40.64) and Rachel Wasserman (1:40.82) each breaking the school record in the 600 meters, surpassing the mark of 1:42.15 set by Wasserman last year.
Six different Blue Hens posted multiple Top 10 finishes as Prettyman was also third in the 800 meters (2:18.81), Toresha Foster was second in the 400 meters (57.88) and placed eighth in the 4 x 400 meter relay (4:05.23), Campbell was first in the distance medley relay and fifth in the 600 meters, Pantale was fourth in the shot put (45-1 1/2) and seventh in the weight throw (49-3 1/2), James was fifth in the long jump (17-10 3/4) and eighth in the 60 meter hurdles (9.52), Nijah Dupiche was seventh in the 200 meters (26.39), eighth in the 400 meters (59.67), and eighth in the 4 x 400 meter relay (4:05.23), and Sydney Shepherd was eighth in both the 300 meters (44.63) and the 4 x 400 meter relay (4:05.23).
Also for the Hens, Kellye Foulke was third in the 3,000 meters (10:20.61), Haley Gorenflo was fourth in the pole vault (10-10), Miranda Reinson was fifth in the pole vault (10-4), and Paige Morris was sixth in the triple jump (37-4 1/2).
Delaware will return to action next Saturday, Jan. 26, when the Hens host the UD/Thomson Invitational beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Delaware Field House.
