Athlete photoCOLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The University of Delaware women’s lacrosse squad will once again open its season against a highly-regarded University of Maryland team when the Blue Hens open the season Thursday afternoon on the road at 4 p.m.

Delaware head coach Kateri Linville heads into her second season with momentum as the Hens look to improve upon last season when the team went 8-9 and just missed out on a berth in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament.

Facing yet another challenging schedule that features some of the nation's top women's lacrosse powers, the Hens will open against a Maryland team that finished as the 2011 national runner-up after capturing the national title in 2010. The Terrapins opened their season with a 19-8 win over Delaware's CAA foe William & Mary Sunday.

With five opponents ranked in the IWLCA Preseason Coaches’ Top 20 Poll - Maryland, Loyola (Md.), James Madison, Georgetown, and Penn State - the Blue Hens will continue the start of a new era against the very top.

Delaware season tickets are still available for the 2012 schedule. Fans can purchase season tickets for $50 for adults and $25 for youth (17 and under) and seniors (60 and over) in advance.

Wills forced seven turnovers and tied for fifth on the squad with Alois last season with 15 groundballs apiece.
