Athlete photoRICHMOND, Va.  – The University of Delaware women’s lacrosse team has another rising star in its hands as freshman Kara Dattellas (at right) picked up her second straight Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week award.

Dattellas helped carry Delaware (2-2) Friday as she scored a career-high two goals on three shots in the Blue Hens’ 13-12 loss at La Salle.  The Camillus, N.Y. native also caused a career-best three turnovers while controlling three draws and picking up two groundballs.

“Kara is highly productive and does so much for the team from collecting groundballs, draws and goals,” commented Delaware head coach Kateri Linville.  “She makes hard work look effortless.  Her skill set, game intelligence and selfless play have made an immediate impact in our game plan.  I am happy to see her efforts recognized in the conference.”

Through four games played, Dattellas has collected four goals on six shots (five on goal) for UD.  She is second on the team with 11 groundballs behind senior Angela Biciocchi.  Her average of 2.75 groundballs per game is good for fifth in the CAA.  Dattellas is also second for Delaware with eight draw controls.

James Madison’s Casey Ancarrow and Hofstra’s Brittain Altomare shared CAA Co-Player of the Week accolades.

The Blue Hens take on Lehigh tomorrow at 4 p.m. in Bethlehem, Pa. before returning home to host Rutgers at 3 p.m. Saturday.
